Merseyside Police has today welcomed the sentencing of two men following a burglary on Brimstage Road last year.

19 year old Jake Mawhinney of Balfe Street, Sefton, pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to 20 months behind bars.

Adam Hastings, aged 27, of Harrops Croft, Sefton, pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to 36 months behind bars.

On the 25th of March last year at around 2.30pm, officers were called  to a residential address following reports that men wearing balaclavas had been seen running away from the property before making off in a Black Saab car.

Police later recovered the car abandoned on Cambridge Road, Woodchurch. Inside they found a crowbar, screw driver and stolen property.

Following extensive CCTV analysis Mawhinney and Hastings were identified as potential suspects, arrested and charged.

Detective Inspector Andy McCourt said: “Luckily the occupants were out enjoying a meal when the offenders broke into their house so no one came to any physical harm; however the victims have been left feeling distraught and nervous in their own home.

“Burglary is a truly invasive crime and knowing someone has been in your property and gone through your belongings can be really upsetting. We are pleased that two burglars are now behind bars; however I’d continue to ask anyone else that knows of people committing a similar offence in their area, to get in touch so we can investigate accordingly.

“You can DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact @CrimestoppersUK anonymously – please don’t suffer in silence.”
