Merseyside Police has issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to as part of an ongoing investigation into the unexplained death of a man in Bebington.

Emergency services were called to Old Chester Road in Bebington at around 9.45pm on Sunday 11th March after a member of the public found the body of a man on the pavement.

The man was identified as a 54 year-old from the Bebington area. His next of kin have been informed.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and the results of the post mortem have been withheld pending toxicology tests.

Officers have spoken to a number of witnesses who have provided statements and they are keen to trace a male who hasn’t yet come forward.

He is described as Asian in appearance, wearing dark clothing and a red coloured cap and carrying a rucksack.

Detective Inspector Paul Parry said: “At the present time the man’s death is being treated as unexplained but we need to follow up every line of enquiry.

“We would like the male in the CCTV footage to come forward as we believe that he may be able to give us a witness statement.

“I want to make it clear that we don’t suspect him of any wrongdoing but think he could have information which is vital to our enquiry.”

Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV, or his description, or the man himself, is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2265 @MerPolCC or by calling the non-emergency 101 number.
