Legends turn out for legend Tim Cogley

[dropcap type=”circle”]T[/dropcap]im Cogley was clearly a much loved young man who lived his life to the full and made a good impression wherever he went.

His tragic and far too premature death in April rocked his wide circle of friends and the Heswall community at large.

Tim, also known as the King of Heswall, had many passions, two of which included football and Claire House hospice for children and young people.

Last month a charity football match was played in his honour. The venue was Gayton Park, home of Heswall FC, and the aim was to celebrate both his life and his love for the beautiful game and add to Tim’s fund raising for Claire House.

This clash of the Titans was billed as Cogley’s Legends vs. Cogley’s Cubs.

Cogley’s Legends

The Legends on show included Jan Molby, Paul Ince and Michael Thomas; while the Cubs were composed of players from the Red Fox, Thornton Hough, and Heswall’s 107 Dining Room.

The game was preceded by a minute’s applause for Tim, and at full time the score was 2-2. There was no energy left for extra time (and the pubs were open) so matters proceeded straight to the penalty shoot-out, which the Cubs won 5-4.

At least 200 much appreciated sports and Tim fans turned out to watch and help deliver the only result that mattered: more than £1000 raised for Claire House.

Tim’s mum and dad presented the trophy to Cogley’s Cubs.

Pat Faragher, Head of Fund Raising at Claire House, said: “Tim was a great young man who often got involved in supporting Claire House, and we are so grateful the hospice was chosen to benefit from the proceeds of the match played in his honour. It goes without saying the money will be well spent and that Tim will be sorely missed.”

Thanks for the photos to Mark Cameron who organised the event along with Barry McCay.
