[dropcap type=”circle”]B[/dropcap]ee-tween at the Design Den is a new Heswall business formed by two friends who upcycle old furniture with impressive results.
Gill Cregeen and Sally Cole have long had a mutual love of design, furniture and fabrics.
Says Sally, “Our project was never really planned. It just grew out of 20 years of friendship and shared interests. We should probably explain the name even though it made perfect sense to us! It refers to the fact that we run the business ‘between’ us, and have a logo that features a bee. Hence, Bee-tween! Simples!”
Gill adds, “The design den where we’re based was a well-established hub above Cara interior design on Pensby Road where I had been making curtains and blinds for many years. Then I decided to draw my final curtain and diversify into upcycling with Sally.”
Upcycling means taking a used item and giving it a new lease of life. The partners admit it is not a new concept, but it is certainly one that has become more popular over recent years as people become more conscious about re-cycling.
“Bee-tween at the Design Den paints vintage furniture with chalk paint and uses soft furnishings to transform items such as chest of drawers, linen boxes and chairs from drab to fab,” explains Gill. “Our range of luxury cushions finishes off the look.”
Furniture can be sourced and restored to order or often clients like advice on furniture they already own and how it can be upcycled to give it a fresh look in their home.
Visitors are welcome to drop into the Den by appointment to see any stock or for a no-obligation chat about their requirements.
Sally says, “Items of our furniture can often be seen on display in the window of the Mill Shop in West Kirby and the Colour Centre in Heswall, and some of our soft furnishings are also available at Pure Floral Design in Brimstage.”
