[dropcap type=”circle”]C[/dropcap]hristmas came early today in the form of the excellent news that the Wirral Bazaar raised £34,000 for North West Cancer Research.
The two day event, which was held in the grounds of Thornton Manor, took place on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week.
It was blessed by mild weather and the generosity of all who took part by either setting up stalls or buying from them.
The hard work of all those responsible for this year’s Bazaar has certainly paid off. Last year almost £28,000 was handed to the cancer charity, so an increase of over £6,000 amid present uncertainties represents an enormous achievement.
North West Cancer Research says, “We’re the only independent cancer research charity not afraid to take on some of the toughest forms of the disease in North West England and North Wales so we can save loved ones. We do this by seeking the smartest people and the best research projects so we can overcome cancer as soon as possible.”
In previous years money raised by the Wirral Bazaar has supported research like a three year project looking at the role of the HPV virus (high-risk HPVs cause several types of cancer, including cervical cancer), and a clinical trial designed to help improve the treatment of bile duct cancer.
Clearly this great work can be built on thanks to the donation made by the Bazaar on behalf of all those who supported it.
