[dropcap type=”circle”]T[/dropcap]he Hazelwell care home in Heswall’s Oldfield Road has opened its doors onto a world of what appears to be unbridled luxury.
Back in March when Heswall Today described the Hazelwell’s extraordinary facilities, including a piano bar, chauffeur driven Mercedes Benz and hairdressing salon, our Facebook page was swamped by the posts of enthusiastic and excited ladies who imagined knocking back a Prosecco or two while being entertained by easy listening music, having their hair done on a regular basis, and even smuggling in young men. Several seemed more than ready to leave their homes and families at once and check in.
This is not exactly what the Hazelwell is about, for it offers residential, nursing, palliative and respite care in fine surroundings. Its pricing is all inclusive, which means that glass of wine, session with the hairdresser and trip out in the limousine are all covered by the weekly fees paid by residents. The idea seems to be, if you’re going to die and go to heaven, you might as well do the second bit while you’re still alive and prepare yourself for the hereafter.
The Hazewell’s home manager Liza Millington, who has more than 20 years of experience in the care home industry, said: “When you’re choosing the right care home for yourself, a family member or loved one, it’s important to know all of the facts.
“At The Hazelwell, we want to make life as simple, straightforward and enjoyable as possible. We are proud to offer an all-inclusive service to our residents as we’re keen for every resident to experience all of the facilities, activities, and luxuries available at The Hazelwell. It also gives peace of mind to residents and their families that everything is covered.”
The Hazelwell also offers daycare, and its facilities also include a home cinema, nail bar, gym, library, on-site chef, a stunning rooftop terrace and a full programme of activities.
The care home has 55 bedroom suites with en-suite facilities and specialist equipment such as nurse call systems. Rooms are spacious enough for residents to entertain guests and personalise. They can even bring in their own furniture, pictures and personal ornaments to make their room a home from home. The Hazelwell adopts an ‘open door’ policy at the home so friends and family can visit their loved ones at any time.
Liza added: “Our entire ethos centres on the word ‘home’. It’s crucial that The Hazelwell feels like home and offers home comforts, whatever each individual perceives those to be. Our chefs offer a high standard of cuisine but it’s also about the little things, such as choosing where you would like to eat your meal that day, having your morning coffee on the terrace in the sunshine or having some peace in the library to read your favourite book.”
