[dropcap type=”circle”]R[/dropcap]ising star golfer Lucy Jamieson from Heswall Golf Club battled her way to victory in the Cheshire County Ladies Championship yesterday.
The competition was staged at Caldy Golf Club where Lucy triumphed over Gill Mellor in the final and raised the large and magnificent trophy.
Conditions were bright but breezy and the Caldy course is always a good test of golf, but Lucy managed to keep her game together and emerge a worthy winner.
Just over two years ago Lucy was among 150 gifted teenage golfers chosen to be part of England Golf’s Under 16 regional boys’ and girls’ coaching squads.
The squads introduce young players to England Golf’s national coaching structure, allowing them to train over the winter months in a programme that combines group coaching with matches and one-to-one sessions with their coaches.
At the time, Nigel Edwards, England Golf’s Performance Director, explained: “We aim to give our talented young players the best golf development experience available. In return, we expect the players to commit themselves to a programme of golf coaching and physical training that will set them up for life.”
Lucy’s victory yesterday suggests she has received a dividend from this and other boosts to her game, not least her own dedication to practise and competition.
The event was sponsored by Andrew Collinge Hairdressing. Andrew and his wife, Liz, are both keen players. Andrew said: “It was a great pleasure for us to get involved with the championship and to discover how much golfing talent there is on our doorstep. We wish all the very best to Lucy, Gill and all the other competitors who contributed to such a great event.”
