[dropcap type=”circle”]T[/dropcap]The Wirral Golf Classic, now in its 7th year, is once again demonstrating its appeal to men and women club golfers from home and abroad.

Over half of the places have already been filled by British players, accompanied by entrants from France, Holland and the United States. The competition gives golfers the chance to test their skills on four great courses, including Heswall.

The tournament is a 72 hole Stableford event with more than £4000 worth of prizes up for grabs. Competitors play four games over five days between the 19th and 23rd of September.

  • Caldy, venue for this year’s British Women’s Seniors, boasts stunning views from its cliffs across the River Dee to Wales.
  • Heswall was the venue for The R&A’s Junior Championships in 2006 and enjoys a great finishing hole right in front of the clubhouse.
  • Wallasey, home of Frank Stableford, the man who invented the scoring system that bears his name, is a former Open Qualifying venue and enjoys those beautiful views across the River Mersey to Liverpool.
  • Royal Liverpool, or Hoylake as it is known by golfers across the world, has staged twelve Open championships, the most recent of which was just two years ago.

The entry fee is £269, but bear in mind that is just over half the standard green fees charged by these courses.

The Wirral Golf Classic is open to men and women of all handicaps and two popular social events in Hoylake are included in the price: a Welcome Drinks Reception at the Holiday Inn Express, together with the prize-giving ceremony in the surroundings of the magnificent clubhouse at Royal Liverpool.
