The Heswall Society is the local amenity society for Heswall and Gayton, formed just over 60 years ago by some far-sighted residents.

Since 1979, when the Heswall Lower Village and Gayton Conservation Areas were designated, the Society has had a place on Wirral Borough Council’s Advisory Committee. Both areas contain important listed buildings and structures. (Click or tap here to find out more from Heswall Today.)

The Society is involved in all local environmental issues and is consulted by the Council on policies affecting the Conservation Areas. It reviews every planning application and, when necessary, make its views known to the Council. During 2015 the Heswall Society considered some 160 applications and objected to or commented on 35.

It remains the only residents’ body which encourages the best designs of houses, retail and commercial properties in order to maintain the character and distinguishing features of Heswall.

The Society is not just about opposing harmful change. It has also been active in enhancing our area over many years. For example, many trees in the Puddydale and in the Thurstaston Road triangle amongst others were planted by the Heswall Society.

The Heswall Society is now actively seeking enthusiastic people with an interest in local issues to join its Committee and contribute to the work of the Society.

If you are a Heswall or Gayton resident with a desire to make a lasting difference to the area and help maintain its character and distinguishing features then membership or a committee role could be for you.

In particular the Society is seeking a new addition to its planning surveillance team and would welcome applicants with experience in this field.
