The family of a woman injured yesterday when a tree fell onto her car on Arrowe Park Road has confirmed that she gave birth following the incident and that, tragically, her baby, a girl, passed away in the early hours of this morning.
The family has asked to be left alone in privacy to be allowed to grieve.
The accident happened near the roundabout close to Thingwall and emergency services were summoned around 8am. Such was the impact of the fallen tree that the woman had to be cut from her vehicle by Mersey Fire and Rescue Services.
She has received medical treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
Merseyside Police said that the family wishes to thank the emergency services and everyone, including members of the public, who came to her aid on the day.
An investigation into the incident continues.
